Arsenal ‘deal signed’ and medical passed as lively forward secures move with key clause absent
Arsenal have agreed to loan out a lively forward who has passed a medical with his next club, though a key clause is missing from the terms, per reports.
Gunners headlines on deadline day will revolve around who Mikel Arteta, Edu and co. sign in the engine room.
Moises Caicedo is their primary target, though Brighton have repeatedly stressed they will not sell this late into the window.
That’s sparked talk a shock move for Chelsea’s Jorginho could be explored. The Blues are seeking to make room for their litany of new signings and had hoped to sell Conor Gallagher once Everton bid £45m (including add-ons).
However, Gallagher does not want to join the relegation-threatened Toffees, meaning a Jorginho exit could now occur.
In any case, Arsenal are poised to complete an altogether different deal, with Brazilian winger Marquinhos all set to join Norwich City on loan.
The news was initially broken by the Daily Express’ Ryan Taylor on Monday. He reported a six-month loan for the 19-year-old had been sanctioned.
Fabrizio Romano has provided a fresh update on the situation, tweeting the deal between Arsenal and Norwich has been ‘signed’.
Marquinhos passed a medical on Monday and official confirmation of the move will follow at some stage today (Tuesday).
Marquinhos was a £3m signing from Sao Paolo last summer and Goal reported the initial plan was to send him straight out on loan.
He was ultimately retained for six months, though found game-time hard to come by.
Lively cameos in the Europa League showed what he is capable of, but displacing the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka was always going to prove tricky.
With Leandro Trossard now on the books too, the decision was made to greenlight a loan.
However, the fact Arsenal have not allowed an option or obligation to buy in the loan is testament to the faith Arsenal have in their winger.
As such, Marquinhos will return to the Emirates at season’s end ahead of a renewed push for minutes.
Norwich currently sit sixth in the Championship amid a fierce battle to finish inside the play-off places.
All being well, Marquinhos will help fire the Canaries into the promotion picture.
