Ariel Winter faces backlash after Memorial Day bikini photo

Ariel Winter has fallen on the wrong side of her followers once again.
The 19-year-old actress, made famous for her role in ‘Modern Family’, posted several bikini shots on the beach on Monday. Doesn’t sound like a big deal but Monday was Memorial Day in the US: the American holiday aimed at honouring those who died while serving their country.
Ariel captioned the photos “Happy Memorial Day” and was swiftly met with backlash from her three million Instagram followers.
Several people were not happy that the star had used the day as a way of showing her body off, branding her choice as “tasteless”.

“This is disrespect to every family member that lost someone serving their country,” one person commented.
“This just goes to show the disgusting narcissism in Hollywood,” wrote another.
Another comment read: “Have some respect for people who laid their lives so you could post this. Feel free to have a beach picture but not on a day like that.”

However, a lot of others were firmly on Ariel’s side. One person said: “Wow, she went to the beach for Memorial Day. Chill out everyone.”
Another commented: “The tabloids stated how these photos are tasteless for Memorial Day. However, I think they are idiots.”
Ariel has had her fair share of criticism in the past. Earlier this month, she was slammed for wearing a revealing gold mini dress to a Modern Family panel when her co-stars were dressed in casual jeans.
Her response? “Why TF does anyone care that I didn’t dress casual like everyone else for the panel? Why do I have to be like everyone else? Why can’t people just let other people feel good about themselves and do what they want?”
A part of us thinks Ariel won’t be apologising for this saga either.
