Ariana Grande has been confirmed as taking on the role of Glinda the Good Witch in the new film adaptation of Wicked, while Cynthia Erivo has been confirmed as playing Elphaba.

Taking to Instagram to confirm the news, Ariana seemed overjoyed to have landed her 'dream role'. Posting a carousel of images on Instagram, the first photo saw Ari with her head in her hands during the moment that she found out she was going to play the role of Glinda, while the second snap was of a bouquet of pretty pink flowers.

The flowers were from Ariana's co-star-to-be, Cynthia, who will play her best friend in the movie. There was a note attached to the bouquet that read, "'Pink Goes Good With Green' Congratulations Miss A, The Part Was Made For You, I Look Forward To Sharing This Musical Journey With You. Love, Cynthia."

Cynthia also took to Instagram to confirm the news of her new role in Wicked. She penned, "Pink goes good with Green 💚💚💚" and like Ari, she also posted a carousel of photos. The first photo was an emotional screen grab from when she was told the happy news, and the second was of a handwritten note on a green-hued bouquet. The note read, "Dear Cynthia, honoured doesn't even begin to cover it. I cannot wait to hug you. See you in Oz. All my love Ari."

The film adaptation of the hit Broadway and Westend musical, is based upon Gregory Maguire's novel. The musical, Wicked, tells an alternative version of events in the land of Oz before Dorothy's arrival. The storyline follows a misunderstood Elphaba and her best friend Glinda. Elphaba later becomes the Wicked Witch of the West, while Glinda becomes the Good Witch.

Ari actually manifested her new role into reality over a decade ago. In a resurfaced tweet from 2011, the singer penned, "Loved seeing Wicked again...amazing production! Made me realize again how badly I want to 2 play Glinda at some point in my life! #DreamRole."

So, dreams really do come true, huh?

It has been reported that filming for Wicked is set to begin later this year, but there's still no release date pencilled in just yet. However long the wait might be, we are SO excited for this. It honestly can't come soon enough.
