Ariana Grande starred in Vogue’s latest installment of the iconic fan-favorite Beauty Secrets series. The r.e.m. beauty founder promoted several of her favorite products—including the new viral and long-awaited sweetener foundation—as she walked viewers through her skincare and ’60s-inspired cat-eye glam look.

The 30-year-old also opened up about far more than makeup, and spoke about the way she defines beauty and how her perspective has changed over her time in the industry.

“I feel like my relationship to beauty has changed so much over the years, especially because I started so young, being exposed to so many voices at a young age,” the “Dangerous Woman” singer said. “Especially when people have like, things to say about your appearance and stuff at a young age, it’s like really hard to know what’s worth hearing or not. When you’re 17, you don’t really know. Over the years, I used makeup as a disguise or as something to hide behind and [used] more and more and more hair and thicker eyeliner and whatever, and that can be so beautiful at times and I still do have love and appreciation for it.”

“As I get older, I don’t love [hiding] being the intention behind [makeup] anymore. I think of it as self expression now, and accentuating what is here,” the Victorious and Sam and Cat alumna continued. “Our relationships to beauty are so personal. We’re here talking about beauty secrets—isn’t the secret that we all just want to feel our best and be loved?”

Grande admitted that over the years, she has used lip filler and gotten various Botox treatments but she stopped in 2018 because it felt like “too much.” While she hasn’t ruled out cosmetic surgeries forever, the Broadway star is embracing aging for the time being.

“I want to see my well-earned cry lines and smile lines,” she shared. “I hope my smile lines get deeper and deeper, and I laugh more and more. I just think aging is, it can be such a beautiful thing.”
