So apparently Selena Gomez and Chris Evans are dating?

In further proof that 2021 is *the* year of unlikely celebrity couples (hello Kourtney and Travis), it's emerged that Selena Gomez and Chris Evans may just be dating – or at least that's what fans think.

Although the pair have yet to confirm or deny the rumour, they are both currently single. Selena has previously dated Justin Bieber and The Weeknd, while Chris Evans dated Jessica Biel between 2001 and 2006, and has since been linked with Lizzo, after the Good As Hell singer admitted to sliding into his DMs.

So errr, where did this theory come from?

It all started back in 2015, when Selena admitted to having a crush on the Captain America star. A viral TikTok shows Selena saying, "I kind of have a crush on Chris Evans. Isn't he cute? ... He's very cute," before adding, "He's either gonna hate me or love me [for saying that]."

While Selena's comments were admittedly very exciting (not to mention relatable), it doesn't exactly prove anything, does it? Especially since this was literally six years ago.

Keen to manifest their relationship into existence, some Twitter users reported that Selena and Chris had been spotted leaving the same studio and restaurant at different times on 1 October 2021.

Sadly though, this piece of 'evidence' has been debunked, as the paparazzi shots of Selena were actually taken back in 2019 and 2017, and the photos of Chris were taken in 2020 and 2013. Sad times.

It appears the only solid connection we have to go on is that Chris recently followed Selena on Instagram. As it stands, she's not followed him back (yet). The pair have also not been photographed together.

That hasn't stopped fans wildly speculating about the pair, as many took to Twitter to voice their approval.

One person tweeted, "[M]anifesting selena gomez with chris evans rumours become true," while another added, "Honestly if someone was going to date my man chris evans then I’m glad it’s Selena Gomez," and another wrote, "PLEASE CHRIS EVANS AND SELENA GOMEZ. HOLLYWOOD’S MOST ATTRACTIVE AND THE MOST POWERFUL COUPLE."

In March earlier this year, Selena opened up about the speculation surrounding her love life, telling the Los Angeles Times, "I think people only care because I’m young, and the older I get the less they’ll care. For now it’s a part of the job that I don’t really like. I’m actually grateful that I’m not involved with anyone right now."

Ah well, it's okay to dream right?
