  • A cheese advent calendar exists, featuring seven varieties of individually wrapped cheese behind every door.

While we've always thought beauty and gin advent calendars were the height of sophistication (and that's not forgetting trusty chocolate), a cheese advent calendar is now a thing for the third year running. We can't thank the gods of Christmas enough.

Cheese lovers, this ones for you. Yes, an actual advent calendar with little blocks of cheese hidden behind every door. We don't brie-leave it (sorry).

Annem Hobson, a food blogger from London, created the cheese advent calendar back in 2016, before launching it to the general public in 2017. Three years on, it's still going strong, and we're not sure we want to picture a future Christmas without it.

It was the first one of its kind (because no-one thought to make our dreams a reality before now. Wut?) and has been a fan favourite ever since, with thousands of people expressing their interest from the first year. Which is hardly surprising, considering our obsession with cheese and the fact Christmas = the perfect excuse for eating as much as possible.

Anyway, do you hear what we're saying? CHEESE. ADVENT. CALENDAR. THE DREAM.

The 2019 version of the Cheese Advent Calendar will be launched in partnership with cheese specialists Norseland, available from various supermarkets in the UK. Behind the 24 doors will be 24 pieces of individually wrapped cheese, with seven different varieties.

Those are: Jarlsberg (smooth, distinctive and rounded, it has a hint of sweetness and a unique flavour), Applewood (a delicate smoky flavour and a lovely smooth texture, all finished with a dusting of paprika for good measure), Ilchester Mature Cheddar (creamy with earthy tangy notes), Ilchester Red Leicester Cheese (smooth and Nutty!) and Ilchester Wensleydale with cranberries.

Also in the mix is Ilchester Wensleydale with Gingerbread (smooth and creamy with the delicious sweet flavour of Gingerbread biscuits), a new Mexicana cheese (cheddar packed with an abundance of bell peppers and hot chilli spices) and a new Ilchester Double Gloucester, which is rich and slightly tangy with nutty taste.

Mouthwatering.

Speaking about her invention, Annem said, “Thousands of people have supported my #CheeseNotChoc campaign, and with every single cheesy invention I make, I want to bring the fans along the journey. Without them, none of this would be possible. That’s why this year, not only have we added more variety of cheeses to the Cheese Advent Calendar."

We are very, very keen to get involved. The calendar is available to buy NOW, just in time to pop in the fridge and have in the count down to Christmas.
