We're sure everyone will agree that Christmas isn't really Christmas without mince pies.

Unfortunately, this means that we tend to eat them as dessert for every meal, leaving our waistlines a smidge tighter than normal by the time New Year's Day rolls around.

So, while we have no desire to calorie count or deprive ourselves at this of year, it wouldn't hurt to know which mince pies from the supermarket are technically the 'healthiest' – or the least bad for you, anyway.

Luckily, nutritionist Lily Soutter has teamed with Bowel & Cancer Research to analyse four different mince pies available at some of the UK''s biggest supermarket chains.

'Their moreish qualities boil down to their rich fat and sugar content, which gives them that deliciously indulgent flavour,' says Lily Soutter. 'Interestingly, the calorie, fat and sugar content can vary greatly between these supermarket pies…'

And it looks like we should head down to Asda if we want the 'healthier' option...

'Asda came up top as the healthiest choice by having the lowest calorie, saturated fat and sugar content.

'However, Tesco and Morrisons had the highest fibre content with as much as 1.5g fibre per pie – fibre is an essential component for the normal functioning of the gut and may help to keep hunger at bay.'

Here are the mince pies ranked from 'best to worst'

1st Place: Asda (219 kcal, 8.6g fat, 2.5g saturated fat, 14g sugar, 1.1g fibre)

2nd Place:Tesco (217 kcal, 8.5g fat, 3.8g saturated fat, 17g of sugar, 1.2g fibre)

3rd Place:Sainsbury's (262 kcal, 10.2g fat, 4g saturated fat and 18.6g sugar, 1.2g fibre)

4th Place: Morrisons (256 kcal, 9.5g fat, 4.2g saturated fat and 21.9g sugar, 1.5g fibre)
