Ant McPartlin breaks hearts as he comforts crying boy during live BGT semi-final

Fans of Britain’s Got Talent were moved by presenter Ant McPartlin’s kind gesture during the fourth live semi-final show.

On Thursday, 30 May it was revealed that one of the series' favourite acts would not be going through to the grand final on Sunday 2 June.

After dance pair Abigail & Afronitaaa were confirmed as finalists, it was announced that dance troupe Phoenix Boys or choir Northants Sings Out would win the second spot in the final. It was down to the judges, Simon Cowell, Bruno Tonioli, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon to decide who would go through, but once again the vote was split with Simon and Bruno voting to send the boys into the final and Amanda and Alesha choosing the choir.

That meant it was down to the public vote again, and Northants Sings Out won the coveted spot, meaning Phoenix Boys journey on the show was ending.

A dance troupe made up of 37 young boys from around the country who meet up in London, Birmingham and Manchester to practice, the Phoenix Boys had won the hearts of the audience and the judges, and they looked devastated that they were not going through.

While new dad Ant checked in with the boys and asked if they were okay, one boy at the front burst into tears. One of the older members thanked everyone for their support, but the younger member still looked upset, and got an encouraging nudge from Ant as the show came to a close.

Many fans went on to predict that Phoenix Boys could be this year’s wild card, and could still end up in the final. “‘This isn’t the last we’ve seen of Phoenix Boys’ oh so theyre the wild card?” wrote one viewer, quoting Ant’s comment about the boys, and another added: “Was rooting for Phoenix Boys so sad they didn’t make it though so much talent. I hope they make the wildcard @BGT if there is one this year. It’s gonna be a tough final!”
