The long wait for the return of Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway is very nearly over.

It's been almost two years since the ITV variety show has been on screens, but Ant and Dec will be back on telly for more Get Out of Me Ear, Win the Ads, Sofa Watch and more before the end of this month.

Only a few hours after teasing fans on Twitter about the premiere date for the new 2020 series on Wednesday (12 February), Saturday Night Takeaway's Twitter account confirmed the show will be back on 22 February!

In for a Penny host Stephen Mulhern also got in on the fun when he replied to Ant and Dec's tease about the premiere date by tweeting: "Need to get my sequin jacket dry cleaned. Ps. Are your phones working? I sent you some fantastic ideas for the show but you left me on read…"

"Could’ve SWORN we replied! Anyway, it’s time to put everyone out of their misery, @itvtakeaway ... Take it away," Ant and Dec jokingly replied before Saturday Night Takeaway's account revealed the date.

During Saturday Night Takeaway's hiatus, Mulhern has spun off In for a Penny into its own successful Saturday night series – which will be returning for a second series this year.

ITV had previously confirmed February as a likely return date in a first-look trailer last month, but the new tweets were the first time the channel announced an actual date.

One major change to the show this time will be that Scarlett Moffatt is not returning after spending a series as a co-host with Ant and Dec.

"Scarlett Moffatt won’t feature as a contributor in the 2020 series of Saturday Night Takeaway," an ITV spokesperson said in January. "We thank Scarlett for all of her hard work on the show and will announce details of the new series nearer transmission."
