There's no escaping it (unless you skip the country that is!) it's bloomin' freezing in the UK right now, making your coat the most vital style choice of the moment. And we couldn't help but notice that lots of our favourite, stylish A-listers must too be feeling the cold, as they wrap up in all manner of chic coats. From Diane Kruger, who took to the red carpet in a faux fur number, to Anne Hathway's off-duty Michael Kors blanket coat, there's more fashion statements to be made with outerwear than you might think! Here we've rounded up the coolest coat looks to inspire you, follow our fool-proof guide to your chicest cold snap ever...
The faux fur coat: mastered by Diane Kruger (see gallery below) is without doubt the most glamourous coat option around, very warm and cosy, it's old Hollywood connotations make it the perfect choice for after dark but don't be afraid to wear your leopard print by day too, thrown over a pair of jeans and simple jumper you'll be surprised at the instant glam results!
The colour pop coat: modelled perfectly my super mod' and cool girl about London-town Cara Delivingne (see gallery below) is just what all these dull days are calling out for. Great worn with neutrals like black, grey and navy, colour pop coats are a great way to introduce bright hues to your wardrobe without having to worry about buying coordinating items. Plus you can wear them into spring time with your new season wardrobe too.
The classic black coat: worn expertly by Sarah Jessica Parker (see gallery below) with navy, is the best choice if you want to invest in one key coat style to see you through to spring. They're fab for work and formal occasions too. It's also worth splashing a bit more clash if you're opting for a black tailored coat, as with all timeless buys you can wear them for years to come. Note Kate Moss' velvet version, a sophisticated take on a classic.
The short sleeved coat: is a fabulous option for evening and great for adding a point of difference to your look, like Olivia Palermo (see gallery below) who's cream version would look just as good with a feminine frock as it does this black leather ensemble.
The wrap coat: is firmly in the fashion spotlight this season and has major elegant appeal. The perfect coat for nailing 'Up-Town' style polish, whilst the cinched waist belt makes it a brilliant figure flattering buy too.
And finally, when it comes to off-duty dressing, look no further than autumn/winter's take on blanket and duffle coats: from micro checks to giant plaid squares (check out Anne Hathaway and Emma Watson in the gallery below) it's all about tartan, meaning you can still turn heads in your coat on even the most casual days.
