Anita Rani has landed a new job for the new year, as she's set to become a presenter on Woman's Hour.

The Countryfile star will take the reigns of the Radio 4 show on Fridays and Saturdays, with Emma Barnett fronting the show from Monday to Thursday - and says it's "an honour" to be part of it.

A delighted Anita announced the news on social media this morning, saying: "What an honour to be joining @bbcwomanshour Cannot wait to get behind the mic to talk about all the things you want me to. All aboard the mothership."

She added: "I've long been a fan of Woman's Hour and I cannot wait to become part of it myself as second presenter, alongside the brilliant Emma Barnett.

"I am really looking forward to getting to know the listeners and discussing issues that matter to them the most. Woman's Hour has always given a voice to people who may not be heard elsewhere and I want to continue the important tradition.

"What an honour and what a way to kick off the weekend."

6 Music presenter and Late Night Woman's Hour host Lauren Laverne tweeted her congratulations to Anita, posting: "YES TO THIS! Absolutely thrilled for you - can’t wait to listen!"

Fellow presenter Steph McGovern added to the praise, saying: "Ah brilliant. Congratulations!

Mohit Bakaya, the controller of Radio 4, said he wanted the station to "better reflect and be relevant to the audience across the UK", and says Rani will bring "a wealth of broadcasting experience" as well as "valuable perspective and insight".

Woman's Hour's long-time hosts, Jane Garvey and Dame Jenni Murray, left the show last year.
