Aniston and McConaughey are 'remaking' classic '80s movie

Oscar winners Julia Roberts, Sean Penn and Matthew McConaughey are about to 'remake' classic '80s movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

But before you go jumping all over that, there's a twist at play here, as it's actually a virtual table read of the original script presented by comedian Dane Cook (via Deadline).

Titled Feelin' A-Live, it'll all go down in exactly a week's time (Thursday, August 20) and raise money for emergency relief organisation CORE, which was co-founded by Penn himself.

Written by Cameron Crowe and directed by Amy Heckerling, Fast Times at Ridgemont High is certainly not to be mixed up with 2018's Bad Times at the El Royale, as of course it's a teen comedy and does not feature Chris Hemsworth as a cult leader.

Although Penn is onboard the the fundraiser, he won't be reprising his character/lovable stoner Jeff Spicoli from the movie.

Friends actress Jennifer Aniston, Morgan Freeman, Shia LaBeouf and Henry Golding are also involved.

"Always game for a giggle", Penn shared his excitement for the film's resurrection: "On behalf of our dedicated team at CORE, I'm so appreciative of the support Dane has given and continues to give to our work.

"So, to gather remotely for a night of laughs with so many talented folks while providing CORE with much-needed resources to continue our vital work, then consider us fully onboard to play!"

Crowe also commented: "Sean brought magic to us on day one and he is still bringing that magic to the world. We are so excited to be a part of this 2020 take on Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

"Thank you to this cast, and to Sean, for always honouring the best things in life, love and creativity. It is, as a great man once said, totally awesome."
