Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were arguably one of the most famous couples in the world, up until they split and filed for divorce back in 2016. After lots of media speculation and reports that Brad wasn't paying proper child support, things were announced as legally over earlier in April this year, with Angelina dropping the 'Pitt' part of her formerly double-barrelled surname.

Now, three years on, the actress (while promoting new film Maleficent: Mistress of Evil) has spoken about the strength it took to reprise her role as the wicked fairy following the end of her marriage.

While not naming any names, Angelina said a recent interview that it wasn't easy, and fans are reading between the lines taking it to mean that she struggled to get back into acting after the break-up.

"It was a tough time. I’d been coming off a few years of difficulty, and I was not feeling very strong. In fact, I was feeling pretty broken. It took me a moment to feel the strength of [Maleficent] again." Maleficent is the first role Angelina has taken on since voicing Tigress in Kung Fu Panda 3 (released in 2016).

She also told People that she tried to offer her six children (Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 13, and Vivienne, 11, and sons Maddox, 18, Pax, 15, and Knox, 11) a part in the new sequel, but that they all refused. Even Vivienne, who appeared in the original movie.

“I tried. Viv still can’t believe I made her a princess. None of my kids want to be actors. [They’re into] business, humanitarian affairs, things like that. Nobody was interested!” she says. Instead, her co-stars come in the form of Elle Fanning and Michelle Pfeiffer.
