Speaking about the breakdown of her marriage, Angelina told Vanity Fair magazine that things first started to deteriorate while she and her six children, 15-year-old Maddox, 13-year-old Pax, 12-year-old Zahara, 11-year-old Shiloh, and nine-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox, were in Cambodia for her film ‘First They Killed My Father’.

Angelina admits that “things got bad” by the time the film was in post-production in the summer of 2016, continuing: “I didn’t want to use that word… Things became ‘difficult’.

“[Our lifestyle] was not in any way a negative, that was not the problem. That is and will remain one of the wonderful opportunities we are able to give our children… I’m very proud of them.

“They’ve been very brave.”

Speaking about how her children coped with the divorce, the 42-year-old star explained: “We’re all just healing from the events that led to the filing. They’re not healing from divorce. They’re healing from life, from things in life.

“I was very worried about my mother, growing up. I do not want my children to be worried about me.

“I think it’s very important to cry in the shower and not in front of them. They need to know that everything’s going to be all right even when you’re not sure it is.

“It’s just been the hardest time, and we’re just kind of coming up for air.”

However, Angelina did hint that she and Brad have salvaged a healthy relationship despite the split, adding: “We care for each other and care about our family, and we are both working towards the same goal.”

The actress also revealed that she’d suffered from Bell’s Palsy and hypertension in the wake of her marriage breakdown, concluding with: “Sometimes women in families put themselves last until it manifests in their own health.”
