Angela Bassett was visibly upset following Oscars Best Supporting Actress loss
Angela Bassett fans and Oscars viewers alike have been rallying around the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star, following her loss in the Best Supporting Actress category.
The 64-year-old (who was arguably the favourite) looked visibly deflated when Jamie Lee Curtis scooped up the gong for her appearance in Everything Everywhere All At Once. Kerry Condon from The Banshees of Inisherin's, EEAAO's Stephanie Hsu, and The Whale's Hong Chau were also nominated.
The moment was picked up by fans on social media, who wanted to show their support for Angela and her performance. "Angela Bassett’s reaction to Jamie Lee Curtis’ name being called…you can tell how much that Oscar would have meant to her. she is, was, and always will be incredible. I better see her on that stage SOON," one person wrote.

Another said, "Angela Bassett’s reaction hurts me #Oscars" and "Angela Bassett… you are EVERYTHING to us. Period." Someone else said, "Angela Bassett deserved better" and "Heartbroken for Angela Bassett."
Earlier this award circuit, she picked up the Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture at the Golden Globes, and paid tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman in her acceptance speech. He was the lead in the 2018 Black Panther movie, before passing away from cancer in 2020.
We were surrounded each and every day by the light and spirit of Chadwick Boseman," she said. "We have joy in knowing that with this historic Black Panther series, it is a part of his legacy that he helped to lead us to. We showed the world what Black united leadership [looks like] beyond, behind and in front of the camera."
