‘American Woman’ Trailer: Alicia Silverstone Does The ’70s Hustle In Paramount Network Dramedy

“You’re just gonna forget that this ever happened and just move on,” the busted-cheating husband says to his wife. “Yeah?” she replies with an almost-frightening smile — that then morphs into a truly frightening stare. “I can’t do that.”

Here’s the first trailer for American Woman, Paramount Network’s half-hour dramedy starring Alicia Silverstone as the wronged spouse. Set in the mid-1970s “amid the sexual revolution and the rise of second-wave feminism,” it follows Bonnie, an unconventional mother who is struggling to raise her two daughters (Makenna James, Lia Ryan McHugh) after she bails on the hubby.

Bonnie fires the maid and gardener then tells her besties Kathleen (Meni Suvari) and Diana (Jennifer Bartels) that she’s going to find a job. (Diana knows this math: “Try working twice as hard for half the recognition and a quarter of the pay.”) All three discover their own brand of independence in a glamorous and ever-changing world reluctant to give it. Cheyenne Jackson and James Tupper also star.

Inspired by the real-life upbringing of co-executive producer Kyle Richards, the series is written by 30 Rock alum John Riggi, also executive produces alongside John Wells. The 12-episode American Woman, from John Wells Prods./Warner Horizon TV, premieres at 10 PM June 7 on Paramount Network.
