American Airlines flight slides off icy runway during snowstorm in Chicago

An American Airlines flight had a bumpy finish when it slid off the runway at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport in the US.

The Embraer ERJ145 had just landed after travelling from Piedmont Triad International Airport near Greensboro, North Carolina, on 11 November.

Video taken by passenger Joseph Lian shows the plane slip off the runway and into a snowy field where it bumps to a halt.

The footage was shared on Twitter by ABC11 news reporter Andrea Blanford, who wrote: “@AmericanAir Flight AA4125 from @flyfrompti to @fly2ohare slides off runway in Chicago this morning. Passengers tell me everyone is OK, deplaned and on buses to terminal.”

One passenger can be heard saying, “no, no, no, no,” as the plane starts to slide, while another says, “I’d say we’re done.”

The video has been viewed more than 700,000 times.

“After landing, American Eagle flight 4125, operated by Envoy Air, slid off the runway due to icy conditions at Chicago O’Hare,” American Airlines said in a statement.

“No injuries were reported. All 38 passengers and three crew members were deplaned from the aircraft and are now safely back in the terminal.”

Chicago, Illinois, is currently recording temperature lows of -12C.

As of 9.50pm local time on Monday, 1,277 flights had been cancelled at O’Hare airport due to snowy conditions.

It comes as weather in the UK worsens.

Forecasters are predicting a deluge of rain will cover swathes of England and Wales, with a “danger to life” weather warning in place and snowfall expected on Thursday.

Two weather warnings are in place for Thursday, with one stretching from Kent to Newcastle and west to Cardiff.

Another includes a warning of “danger to life”, which covers South Yorkshire, north Nottinghamshire and north Lincolnshire.
