Amber Heard wears, what looks like, a designer swimming cap on the red carpet

Actors often talk about bringing film scripts into their everyday lives to get a real feel for the role they’re set to portray on the silver screen.

Last night, Amber Heard proved she’s taken on the character of ‘Aquaman”s Mera with gusto after diving straight into the Queen of the Sea’s wardrobe for the blockbuster’s London premiere.

As a love interest of the waterborne superhero, the actress naturally took to the red carpet wearing a sweeping mermaid-inspired dress topped with an haute couture cap – which we’re pretty sure isn’t waterproof.

The 32-year-old plucked the plunging brocade dress from the Valentino Haute Couture Autumn/Winter 2018/2019 collection in tribute to her onscreen role.

Boasting earthy sea moss hues and a floral-emblazoned print, the gown featured an impressive train and cutout panelling across the waist – certainly a chic upgrade on the fairytale mermaid.

In a surprise move from the sartorially safe A-lister, Heard sought inspiration for the look directly from the runway with a retro cap fixed beneath her chin courtesy of a floral strap – also by Pierpaolo Piccioli for Valentino.

In keeping with the theme, she relied on nothing but a sole pearl earring and gold Brian Atwood platforms to finish.

Unsurprisingly, the outfit soon graced the headlines with social media users divided over the actress’ latest ensemble:

It’s interesting to note that the creative director of Valentino has been the puppet master behind a string of headline-worthy red carpet looks in recent weeks.

Actor Ezra Miller was at the epicentre of many a mocking tweet when he attended the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ premiere in a puffer coat from Piccioli’s Moncler collaboration.

Twitter users debated the look on social media, drawing comparisons to everything from a Walnut Whip to a Dalek.
