Amazon's Echo Dot is over 50% Off in the Prime Day sale

Amazon Prime Day 2022 is here, and the deals are coming in thick and fast on Amazon devices – including "up to 50% off top brands" meanwhile there are discounts on Amazon's own-brand devices, including their third-gen and fourth-gen Echo Dot smart speakers, as well as the Echo Show 5, plus Echo Auto and Flex.

Note: these offers are exclusive to Amazon Prime members, so you'll need to be signed up for the service (Amazon does offer free trials during sale periods, or if you've never tried it before,). Otherwise, Membership currently costs £7.99 per month or £79 per year for UK users, or $14.99 per month/$139 per year in the US.

Amazon Prime Day Echo Deals


Amazon Prime Day runs from Tuesday, July 12 to Wednesday, July 13 2022 and we've been keeping an eye on all the top offers, and compiling the early deals on the likes of the Kindle, Fire TV stick, Prime Video, Audible and Amazon Music Unlimited. If you're looking to snag yourself an Echo device, it's worth noting that there are several types which you can use to listen to music, check on your schedule, or even video call loved ones, including the Echo Dot, Echo Show, Echo Flex, Echo Auto, and Echo Studio.

Based on previous years, it's likely the offers will run until the end of day two of Amazon Prime Day, which would be 23.59 Wednesday, July 13, 2022. There will also be 'lightning deals' which are shorter deals expiring after a few hours on higher-end items.

Amazon Echo devices explained: Echo Flex, Echo Dot, Echo Studio and Echo Show

Amazon smart speaker devices include various sizes and prices, all with the AI assistant Alexa built-in. The Echo Flex is the most basic version which plugs into your sockets at home, while the Echo Studio is the biggest, and ideal for music fans.

The Amazon Echo has all the benefits of a smart speaker, including making to-do lists, setting timers, delivering weather, travel, and news updates, along with streaming music, playing podcasts and being a central hub for remotely controlling other smart items in your home, as well as other Amazon speakers.

The Amazon Echo Dot is a spin-off mini speaker from the retailer's original Amazon Echo. The first three generations of the Echo Dot were small, hockey-puck-sized alternatives to the full-size speaker. However, after the Echo Dot 3rd generation, the Echo Dot 4th generation abandoned the previous design for a spherical speaker, around 3.9 inches tall, and double the height of its predecessor.

Then finally there's the Echo Show 5, Echo Show 8, Echo Show 10, and Echo Show 15 are essentially Alexa-enabled tablets with touchscreens and cameras with the benefits listed above. Plus, they're ideal for streaming, video calls, doubling as a baby monitor, or answering your door remotely via Amazon Ring.

Amazon Prime Day – Echo 4th generation deals

This is the premium version of the Amazon Echo speaker is now £54.99, previously £89.99 (join Amazon Prime for the deal). Confusingly, it looks very similar to the mini Echo Dot 4th generation. However, this one is bigger at 133mm x 144m, while the Echo Dot is 89mm x 100mm.

It has bigger speakers, as well as Dolby Audio, and is set up a bit better for connecting to smart devices, thanks to its integrated wireless control hub. It comes in three colours – charcoal, glacier white, and twilight blue. The price on this one has ranged from £54.99 - 89.99 during various sales. During Amazon Prime Day 2021 it dropped to £54.99.

Amazon Prime Day – Echo Dot 4th generation deals

The Amazon Echo Dot (4th generation) is now £19.99 DOWN from £29 and £39.99 across the last week. During Prime Day 2021 it dropped down to £29.99, so this is a really good price. Join Amazon Prime for the deal.

The Amazon Echo Dot (4th generation) (typically £49.99) launched in September 2020. It comes with all the functionality listed above and, as we mentioned, it's smaller at 89mm x 100mm. It's available in three colours – twilight blue, glacier white, and charcoal.

There's also the option to get this speaker with a digital clock embedded on the side, making it the perfect alarm clock. This version is now £29.99 at the time of writing and previously dropped to £34.99.

Amazon Prime Day – Echo Dot 4th generation Kids deals

The Echo Dot (4th generation) Kids - now £24.99 (previously priced at 34.99 and £59.99). Join Amazon Prime for the deal.

This launched in July 2021 and as the name suggests is designed for children and comes packed with parental controls, as well as two designs of a panda and a tiger.

The idea is that children can ask Alexa questions, get help with their homework, play music, call approved friends and family, as well as listen to child-friendly audiobooks with the Amazon Kids+ 12-month subscription that's included (normally £3.99 per month) this also has games and apps compatible with other Amazon devices.

Obviously, we'd advise supervision and reviewing the Amazon Kids+ content yourself before leaving your kids alone to peruse, but they claim that no purchases can be made without parental approval, you can set time limits, and lock out non-educational features until their learning requirements have been met. Amazon Prime Day – Echo Dot 3rd generation deals

The Amazon Echo Dot (3rd generation) (NOW £16.99 RRP £39.99). Join Amazon Prime for the deal.

This is a bit more affordable, as it's slightly older, having launched in 2019. Again, it comes with all the functionality listed above, as well as being a bit smaller in size than the 4th generation.

It comes in a bigger selection of colours, including charcoal, heather grey, plum fabric, and sandstone. Last week it was listed at £24 and £34.99, and previous sale prices have ranged between £18.99 - £49.99, during Prime Day 2021 the price dropped to £19.99. So the 2022 price is the lowest we have seen.

Amazon Prime Day – Echo Flex deals

The cheapest option for Echo speakers is the Echo Flex (£24.99 RRP - now £9.99), which plugs into power sockets in your house. It comes with Alexa – to share information like news, weather, and traffic – plus it can control smart devices in your home, such as lights and the thermostat.

If that tickles your fancy, you might also be interested in the Echo Flex and Amazon Smart plug bundle (£24.99). However, the Echo Flex isn't the best option for music playback – so you'll need to connect it to an external speaker for that, or buy one of the Echo speakers above instead.

Amazon Prime Day – Echo Show 5 deals (2nd generation)

An alternative to the Echo speakers is the Echo Show 5, which is now slashed to £34.99 (RRP £74.99). Join Amazon Prime for the deal.

This is the 2021 2nd generation version, following the original which launched in June 2019. The device comes equipped with a touchscreen (5.5 inches) and a camera. The original Echo Show 5 (1st generation) is now £37.99.

This offers all of the advantages of the devices listed above, as well as allowing you to use it as a baby monitor or answer your front door via the camera when used with Amazon Ring.

You can also use it to stream TV shows, and watch step-by-step cooking guides, plus video calls with friends and family. You can also choose clock faces and pictures to display while the Echo Show 5 is idle.

Amazon Prime Day – Echo Show 8 deals

All of the benefits above come with the Echo Show 8 but with an 8-inch HD screen (as the name suggests). It's now on sale for £59.99. Join Amazon Prime for the deal.

In terms of colours, it comes in charcoal or sandstone. There's also an Echo Show 8 1st-generation from November 2019 (on sale for £59.99) and Echo Show 8 2nd-generation from June 2021 (on sale for £71.99). The original Show 8 dropped to £84.99 during Prime Day 2021.

Amazon Prime Day – Echo Show 10 deals

Echo Show 10 is NOW £189.99, RRP £239.99. Join Amazon Prime for the deal.

The top-of-the-range speaker comes with all of the benefits listed above, plus it has the biggest screen (10.1 inches). It also has a podium that automatically pivots the screen so it's always facing you during video calls, or while you're watching TV, which is ideal if you like to multitask while cooking, or exercising.

This Echo device comes in charcoal grey fabric and glacier white. It launched in September 2020, and went on offer for £199.99 during Prime Day 2021, however it was a Lightning Deal (Amazon's name for a flash sale), which means there was limited stock. So the 2022 price is the best that we've seen so far.

Amazon Prime Day - Echo 15 Deals

The Amazon Echo Show 15 is NOW £189.99, WAS £239.99. Join Amazon Prime for the deal.

This is the newest and largest in the range, launching in December 2021, and comes with a 15.6" Full HD (1080p) smart display and a 5 MP camera. Designed to be mounted on a wall, it essentially comes with all of the features mentioned above, and acts as a modern family planner, allowing you to have personalised profiles, calendars, and reminders, as well as watch your favourite shows and answer the door remotely.

Amazon Prime Day – Echo Studio deals

While it's not part of the Prime Day sales as of yet we can't go without mentioning the Amazon Echo Studio (£189.99). It's the top-of-the-range speaker from Amazon, which features Dolby Atmos and 3D audio. The only discounted option at the time of writing is a refurbished model, which comes in at £170.99.

To get the most out of it, you'll need to check out Amazon Music HD, which features high-definition tracks but is also expanding a library of music rendered in 3D.

The price of this one has ranged from £149.99 - £189.99 during various sales.
