Christmas advert season is officially upon us - and the latest to tug at our heart strings is from Amazon. Get the tissues ready, because it’s emotional.

The full two minute ad - which is live on the retailer's YouTube channel will be shown on TV in the first ad break of the Great British Bake Off tonight.

It’s set to a new arrangement of Queen’s galvanising tune The Show Must Go On, and follows the tale of a young ballet dancer who is forced to make the best out of a bad situation.

The heartwarming story sees the ballerina's performance cancelled because of the pandemic. But her family rally around to lift her spirits and organise what ends up being a spectacular outdoor show in the snow.

At the beginning of the advert, we see our hero, the ballerina, being given the lead role in a show at her performing arts school. But, seeing as it's 2020 and nothing is going to plan as we're in the middle of COVID 19, she’s told to stay at home.

There’s Zoom calls and practices with her classmates, and many outdoor practising along, and the young ballerina is devastated when the show is cancelled. Her family then hand out flyers for ‘The Show Must Go On’, and the ballerina dances outside, much to the delight of her neighbours, watching from a safe distance through their windows.

French ballet dancer Tais Vinolo, who plays the ballerina, says: "When I was growing up in the French countryside, there were no young black girls studying ballet with hair like mine, or even on TV, meaning I had no one to identify myself with.

"Being on this shoot helped so much with this, enabling me to own who I really am, who I want to be and what I represent. 'I am so proud to have been part of this project since the message of it means a lot to me and even more so in this very difficult time that the world is going through.

Simon Morris, vice-president global creative at Amazon, said: “Our TV ad is inspiring by, and pays tribute, to the unbeatable human spirit and the power of community that we have witnessed so often this year.”

Excuse us, we have something in our eye...
