There’s nothing better than staying in, hunkering down and wrapping up in a blanket on the sofa.
Well, there’s one thing better: swapping your go-to blanket for an electric version.
Electric blankets might seem old-fashioned (hands up who else’s grandmother used one throughout her life?), but modern versions are surprisingly smart - and safe.
They’re not all that cheap - most will ring it at around £50 -, which is why we were thrilled to spot Amazon’s hacked the price of a top-rated blanket in half.
Silentnight’s Comfort Control Electric Blanket is clearly a winning buy with chilly shoppers. The product, which was £42.99 and is now £22.99 (including free delivery) has over 4,700 ratings - and an average of five gold stars.
It’s available in three sizes: for a single bed, double and a king size. It’s compatible with memory foam mattresses, duvets and toppers, but isn’t made to fit the mattress from edge to edge, so do not be alarmed if it looks too small.
The electric blanket also has three heat settings to ensure you are the perfect temperature at all times. Plus, it heats up quickly so you won’t be shivering for too long.
The best quality, in our opinion, is the overheat protection feature.
This means you the blanket will automatically turn off if the built-in thermal fuse detects temperatures are particularly high in certain areas.
Safety first, and all that.

One happy customer commented: “A great product for cold winter nights. It gets pretty hot so we use it on 1 or 2 out of 3.
“It was a little fiddly to adjust it to the mattress at first but no problems since then. It's best to turn it on 10-15mins before you go to bed and the dual setting is really handy so you and your partner can have your own preferences.”
Another wrote: “This product was a great addition to my bed. It only takes a few minutes until it reaches it's max temperature and warms up the majority of the bed. The blanket doesn't get too hot that it's scolding but will have to be turned down when sleeping.
”The blanket also isn't hard and fits nicely under a bedsheet.
“Pros: Heats up relatively quickly - warming the bed. Cant feel the blanket physically.
“Cons- Not long enough. Would be better to have more control over the temperature.”
