A Whitefield pub has been voted the best pub in the Bury South area for the second year in a row.

The Goat's Gate on Radcliffe New Road is a popular pub and pizza house, ideal for a "quick bite to eat or a sitdown meal", according to brewery Joseph Holt.

It specialises in freshly made stone-baked pizzas, where there’s also a few local flavours to make the most of.

The two bars stock a range of award-winning beers and cask ales, premium spirits, wines, plus a range of gin and rum cocktails.

A total of nine pubs were shortlisted for the top title.

The best pub in Prestwich was voted as The Royal Oak on Whittaker Lane, the best boozer in Radcliffe was voted as Radcliffe Market, and the best establishment in Whitefield was voted as the Eagle and Child on Higher Lane.

Bury South MP Christian Wakeford announced the winner on Tuesday, March 14 on social media.

He said: “Congratulations to everyone and thank you to everyone who took part and showing their support for the pub and hospitality sector at this tough time.”

In a statement, the Goat's Gate managers Val Watt and Ray Hatton added: “It's amazing to win this award for the second time the support from the community and our guests means the world to us.”

The pub has also just installed a defibrillator on the side after raising money from the local area.

Ray said: “They’re a great bit of kit and fantastic for the area so hopefully we don’t have to use it but if we do then its there.

“It was all raised by the locals, we did charity raffles, charity darts nights and the reindeers at Christmas- the local area has just been fantastic.”
