Amanda Seyfried and James Norton play a fractured married couple in Netflix's spine-tingling supernatural thriller, Things Heard & Seen, adapted from the acclaimed novel by Elizabeth Brundage.

The film follows a well-healed Manhattan couple (Seyfried and Norton) as they move to a secluded and historic hamlet in the Hudson Valley. Their life begins to unravel as they discover that their marriage has a sinister darkness, one that rivals their new home's history.

Netflix has released a trailer for the thriller, which also stars Stranger Things actress Natalia Dyer, Better Call Saul's Rhea Seahorn, rising star Alex Neustaedter and Homeland's F. Murray Abraham. Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini direct.

Brundage's best-selling book, the basis of the movie, is called All Things Cease to Appear, centres on the Clare family as they relocate to the small town of Chosen, New York, as they discover that their home - once a thriving dairy farm - is haunted by the tragedy that left the former owner's three sons orphaned and adrift.

Seyfried was recently nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her performance in David Fincher's Mank, a homage to Hollywood as it centred on screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz and his development of the screenplay for Citizen Kane.

"Working with David Fincher on Mank has been the highlight of my career, and being recognized by the Academy for an experience that brought me this much joy and fulfillment feels surreal," the actress said of her nomination. "To get to study this brilliant, humble woman and help restore her legacy has been a true privilege."

Meanwhile, McMafia actor Norton stars alongside Poldark's Eleanor Tomlinson in Joss Whedon's anticipated genre-bending sci-fi period drama The Nevers. The HBO Max drama follows a group of Victorian women who suddenly accrue supernatural powers, which strikes fear amongst the ruling men who attempt to subjugate them.

Things Heard & Seen will launch on Netflix on April 29.
