Britain's Got Talent fans were left scratching their heads after Amanda Holden made a baffling comparison between an act and TV favourite Stephen Mulhern.

During the semi-final extravaganza on Thursday night, 30 May, presenting duo Ant and Dec welcomed the judging panel Simon Cowell, Amanda, Alesha Dixon, and Bruno Tonioli to the stage amidst a flurry of hopefuls ranging from acrobats to singers, all vying for a spot in the grand final and a chance to dazzle at the Royal Variety Performance.

Kicking off the show with a bang was Andrew Curphey, who energised the audience with his dynamic performance, belting out popular tunes and busting some moves. The stage was alive with dancers and confetti, and everyone was clapping , everyone except an unimpressed Simon, who hit the dreaded red buzzer.

Simon critiqued Andrew's vocal prowess and suggested he might be better suited as a game show host. "I really like you as a game show host," he remarked.

Amanda echoed this sentiment but not without offering some praise. She enthused: "You were a fantastic ball of energy to open the show. It's like you've already got your own fanbase. I'd take gameshow host If I were you.", reports the Mirror.

Post-performance, while Ant and Dec were giving their thoughts, Simon and Amanda shared a hushed conversation. Then, Amanda turned to Andrew and said: "10 years ago, this was Stephen Mulhern. 10 years ago. Stephen Mulhern."

This comment sent viewers into a state of confusion, prompting them to head to social media to discuss the BGT judge's strange remark, with one calling it an 'insult'.

Stephen's career kicked off in the mid-90s, and he's been the face of popular shows like Britain's Got More Talent, Catchphrase and Deal Or No Deal. One fan tweeted: "Did Stephen Mulherne go on #BGT and sing very badly 10 years ago?" Another chimed in with: "10 years ago that was Stephen Mulhern? This was in 1998? 26 years ago," alongside a nostalgic snap of the presenter.

Another viewer quipped: "Imagine telling someone they're a young Stephen Mulhern and expecting them to be grateful. Amanda Holden needs euthanising," while another shared: "I didn't think he was brilliant he was ok though....not like Stephen mulhern though lol."

"Amanda proving yet again how little the judges know about "talent". To compare him to Stephen Mulhern is an absolute insult," one fan pointed out. During the audition, Andrew received the red buzzer from Simon but he was too engrossed in his performance to notice Simon's disapproval.

The 37 year old confessed to The Express that he was starstruck after his audition, admitting he "didn't even notice" Simon's disapproving buzzer. "I didn't notice [the buzzer]. I was too busy having the time of my life", he told the publication.

"Everyone was up dancing and the other three judges were having a party with me. I didn't process it at that moment in time, because I just had a good time, and the atmosphere was amazing."
