Amal Clooney will lend her support to a new women's pavilion coming to Expo 2020 Dubai. The female-driven platform will form part of an expansive international exhibition based on the theme Connecting Minds, Creating the Future, opening on 20 October and closing on 10 April 2021.
The Women's Pavilion, sponsored by Cartier, will highlight the stories of men and women who have contributed to gender equality. The project will provide "a new look at the contribution of women and their impact on society, shining a light on the countless achievements, past and present, that have driven forward economies and enhanced their communities". The space will feature contributions from leading artists, scientists, thought leaders, politicians, entrepreneurs and business leaders.
Clooney, a long-standing champion of women's rights, is supporting the event, although details of her involvement will not be disclosed until nearer the expo. It has also been confirmed that United Nations under-secretary-general and executive director of UN Women, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, will also participate, but again no further details have been revealed.
"With the Women’s Pavilion, Expo 2020 and Cartier will celebrate women from all backgrounds and vocations, from global political figures to local community three members to trailblazing business leaders, providing a global platform to recognise the impact of women and their influence on our society," read a Cartier press release.
Expo 2020, the first of its kind in the Middle East, aims to attract up to 25 million visitors, with 70 percent from outside of the United Arab Emirates.
