Oh, you know he wants to.

He wants to come storming back to center stage again. He wants to demonstrate how much smarter and how much more of a manly man than the people who have been bad-mouthing him since 2015. He wants to be his own drum major of his own parade, again. And the Democratic managers of the current House impeachment process know this very well and took a chance at playing Br'er Rabbit. From CNN:

"Two days ago, you filed an Answer in which you denied many factual allegations set forth in the article of impeachment. You have thus attempted to put critical facts at issue notwithstanding the clear and overwhelming evidence of your constitutional offense. In light of your disputing these factual allegations, I write to invite you to provide testimony under oath, either before or during the Senate impeachment trial, concerning your conduct on January 6, 2021."

Alas for low comedy, his lawyers got a hold of this letter before he could answer it personally.

But Trump's legal team quickly responded by rejecting the invitation in a terse response to the House impeachment team, putting the decision back on the Democrats over whether to try to compel Trump's testimony with a subpoena.

Were I one of the managers, I'd subpoena him yesterday, just to ask him under oath who he thinks actually won the 2020 election. I'd subpoena him yesterday just to hand him enough rope. I understand that, if the House managers subpoena him, we're all going spiraling into one federal court or another until well past Arbor Day, assuming his lawyers can keep him sedated long enough. But I'd tempt the hell out of him with the possibility of making his own case before god and the world. I'd drive him personally from the airport.
