Alpine will be your new favourite crochet stitch

If you're looking for a new crochet stitch to master, alpine stitch is a great one to try.

Crocheted alpine stitch is gorgeously textured, perfect to use when making crochet jumpers or crochet cushions. It uses the same technique as waffle stitch to create the look: using front post treble crochet stitches. Don't worry, we'll talk you through how to do them step-by-step in our tutorial below.

It's a surprisingly easy stitch to master once you know how to crochet – the basic pattern of two rows is repeated until you reach your desired length.

If you'd like to crochet alpine stitch, look no further than my simple step-by-step video guide, which takes you through every stage of working alpine stitch. I love using alpine stitch to work textured pocket detail onto a crochet jumper or cardigan.

I'd recommend working alpine stitch with a DK or chunky yarn in whatever colour you like!

Step 5

Work one front post treble crochet into the next stitch from the base of the chain. To do this, instead of treble crocheting into the top of the stitch as normal, work the stitch into the post of the stitch. Make sure you keep the new front post treble crochet stitch nice and loose.
