Alicia Keys Pays Tribute to NYC in "Empire State of Mind" Cape Dress

Alicia Keys paid tribute to the concrete jungle at the 2022 Met Gala on Monday. Surrounded by dozens of celebs displaying their own takes on the event's "Gilded Glamour" theme, Keys floated down the red carpet in a fitted Ralph Lauren gown. Immaculately sculpted like a New York City skyscraper, the off-the-shoulder dress featured a shimmering print that mirrored the hundreds of windows painting the faces of office buildings and apartments across the city.

Keys layered the silver evening gown under a black floor-length cape embellished with a rhinestone silhouette of the New York City skyline, including detailed depictions of the Empire State Building, the One World Trade Center, and more. The sweeping cape featured a high collar with a sharp, asymmetrical neckline that beautifully matched with the city's architecture. "My inspiration is our city. New York City forever," Keys told La La Anthony in an interview for Vogue on the red carpet. "It's an honor to represent our city. I love New York City, our resilience."

Keys styled the look with a diamond bracelet, emerald drop earrings, and a lengthy rope braid stacked with glittering discs. Keys's hairstylist also accented her baby hairs with miniature rhinestones, while her makeup artist opted for a classic winged eyeliner look.

Swizz Beatz kept the Ralph Lauren theme going in a New York letterman jacket over a white suit jacket, black slacks, and a baseball cap. Other style stars on the red carpet included Janelle Monáe in Ralph Lauren, Tommy Dorfman in Christopher Kane, and more.
