Alexa Chung styles Mango's viral barn jacket for party season
If an item of clothing gets Alexa Chung's seal of approval, you can count on it being cool. So, when the model, presenter and all-round It girl champions what the fashion pack have already declared the high-street jacket of the season, you can bet we're rushing to snap it up before it inevitably vanishes (again).
The hero coat in question? Mango's bestselling barn jacket, of course, which went viral when it dropped earlier this season and promptly flew off the shelves. Thankfully it returned, but it's already selling out again with only a few sizes remaining.
Featuring as the first guest in Mango's new video series, The Mango Box, which asks celebrities for advice on how to dress, Alexa talked us through her first outfit: the barn jacket, a chocolate-brown cashmere jumper, a tasselled leather skirt and brown penny loafers with socks.
"I am wearing a fantastic jacket," she says in the clip, "one of the best jackets I've ever met. I think it's maybe inspired by a firefighter situation. It's got a cord collar and I love it."
The sought-after parka, £99.99, is an investment buy that will go the distance without fully breaking the bank. Made from sturdy cotton canvas in a warm khaki colour with a contrasting chocolate-brown corduroy collar, it features utility-style oversized pockets and elevated brass-toned fastenings.

Barn jackets are the undisputed outerwear trend of the moment, now not only seen in the countryside but also on the streets of our most fashionable cities. Though long-loved by A-listers and royals alike, these boxy coats became the style set's darling after Prada sent beige and navy iterations down its SS24 runway, paired with sheer skirts for that forever-cool masculine/feminine clash.
We love to wear our barn jacket with straight-leg jeans and cosy knits, but you could also throw one over a slip dress or sequin skirt – they're very versatile. Or, go full Rivals and team your barn jacket with thick leggings and Hunter wellies. Make Jilly proud!
Barbour remains the original port of call for barn jackets (or, as you may know them, country jackets or waxed jackets), but there are now a host of more affordable options available on the high street, including an & Other Stories style we also love.
