Alexa Chung has designed a '70s-inspired capsule collection for Mulberry.
The model and TV personality has been a longtime friend of the luxury British brand and even inspired the creation of one of its most iconic bags, the Alexa, and now she is making her design debut for the house as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations.
"I thought it was a great, quite rare opportunity," Alexa said in a statement. "I never expected to be invited to actually design my own Mulberry bag, which is really a dream come true."
The Mulberry x Alexa Chung capsule is comprised of two styles - a roomy shoulder bag called the Big Guy and a compact clutch named the Little Guy. They both feature chain straps and a boxy silhouette and are made from materials including glossy crocodile-effect patent leather, sumptuous velvet and suede. The colour palette ranges from earthy shades such as black, dark chocolate and tan to "peppy, optimistic" tones of apple green and denim blue.
The bags were inspired by Alexa's personal style, described as "masculine formality offset with a vintage romance and a deep appreciation for British design", as well as vintage satchels, the 2010 Alexa bag and the sleek aesthetic of '70s style icons like Charlotte Rampling and Lauren Hutton.
"Mulberry has always been a brand that's very close to my heart. The Alexa represents a moment in my life that I'm extraordinarily proud of and feel really lucky to have experienced," added Alexa, who also stars in the campaign. "It's nostalgic and sentimental and sweet and joyful. This time, I wanted to create something that straddled what the bags means to me personally but could become that for someone else's wardrobe. I wanted to make sure that it would endure, become a future classic. I welcome this extension of a relationship that's been unfolding over decades."
Mulberry x Alexa Chung, another chapter in the Mulberry Editions series of limited-edition capsules, launched on Monday.
