With the best regular season record in the NWSL, San Diego Wave FC headed into post-season play as the top-ranked seed in the league, hopeful for the chance to capture the team’s first championship title since its founding in 2021. With a first-round bye, the Wave played their first playoff game against the No. 4 ranked OL Reign on Nov. 5. After a hard-fought battle, the team fell to the Reign 1-0.

While a disappointing end to an incredible season—one that saw the Wave win their first NWSL Shield, awarded to the team with the best regular season record—seasoned striker Alex Morgan took to Instagram following the loss to reflect on the positives from the season.

“Tough way to end the season and our playoff run but proud of this team for what we accomplished this year. Thank you to San Diego and our fans for your unwavering support. Grateful for the love and energy you bring every game!🫶,” Morgan wrote in the caption of her Instagram recap. The carousel included some incredible game-day snaps, including memories between the star and her teammates and sweet moments she shared with fans.

Though not the finish she hoped for, the 34-year-old was grateful for the experience of the season and the incredible show of fan support throughout. The team has already accomplished some incredible feats in just two years, and we can’t wait to see where Morgan and the rest of the impressive squad go in the years to come.
