Alex Jones has already come back to The One Show to check in with her colleagues and introduce her newborn baby daughter to the show's family.

Appearing through a video link from her home, Alex made a quick visit to Jermaine Jenas and guest presenter Sam Quek who were in the newly remodelled studio on tonight's (August 31) show.

In her arms, she was holding her little bundle of joy who is only 10 days old. This is Alex's third child with her husband Charlie Thomson but her first daughter.

When the show's title music played, "she kind of opened her eyes and smiles," said Alex of her baby, "because I am sure she probably thinks, 'I have heard that music before.'"

Adding that both mother and baby are doing "really well", the Welsh presenter described the birth saying: "She came very easily. She is tiny as you can see, like two bags of chips.

"She is just gorgeous and so far she is still in her sleepy phase but she is really easy, really relaxed. Let's hope it stays like that."

As for how the baby's two older brothers are adapting to the new addition to the family, "they absolutely adore her, but Kit, our little 2-year-old, that is tricky with a baby JJ, let me warn you."

What everyone wants to know now is what is the little girl's name, but Alex played coy when it came to revealing the big news: "With a name, today was the deadline because I thought right, we're just going to tell everybody what it is.

"So we were between two, then we eventually decided, we thought, on one. So we rang Charlie's parents who are in Auckland in New Zealand they are in lockdown, they can't be over here obviously, sadly.

"So we rang them last night, which was this morning [for them], and we didn't get an answer. So I just spoke to Charlie and he said 'Oh Al, I don't think we can tell everybody until Mum and Dad know because love them, grandparents, they already can't be here to meet her."

And while we get that it would be awkward for Alex's in-laws to find out their grandchild's name from the telly, Alex is happy to still reveal it to the world exclusively on The One Show.

"So we are going to have to ring them tonight and the thing is now I am building it up and it's a very simple kind of classic name but I think it's only fair that we tell granny and grandad first. But I am really happy to pop back tomorrow night if you want and let you know."

See you back same time tomorrow?

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
