Aled Jones was teased at school after appearing on 'Top of the Pops'
Aled Jones says he was teased at school after his childhood TV appearances on Top Of The Pops and The Wogan Show.
The singer turned broadcaster — who shot to fame as a teenager in 1985 with his rendition of Walking In The Air — spoke to Kate Thornton on White Wine Question Time about how he managed being at school alongside the gigs and stardom that came with being a child star.
When asked about his previous claims that he was beaten up at school, Jones clarified to Thornton that it was never 'badly' but he often did get teased at school, with kids singing songs to make fun of him.
He said: "Every time I went on The Wogan Show people would tease me and [Terry Wogan] loved that.

"He absolutely loved the fact that I'd do his show and then I'd go back and people would be [chanting]: 'Terry Wogan'.
"The kids at school, the younger ones, every break time they would sing [to the tune of Walking In The Air]: 'My name is Aled Jones, I like to pick my nose I do. I like to pick my bum, especially with my thumb.'
"When you've heard that 5,000 times you're like: 'Yeah, whatever.' But also I found out very quickly who my really good friends were at school and they didn't care what I did.
"And I still meet up with them occasionally now and and we're still the same – I hope anyway!"
Jones' cover of Walking In The Air, from 1982's animated The Snowman, peaked at number five in the UK singles chart, and made the singer a household name.
He also described a time he was on Top Of The Pops and a documentary released since shows him telling his mum he would rather not wear the smart shirt she had picked out for him.
He said: "I was mortified and I think [my mum] was upset as well. So two girls from EMI went out to Topshop and got me a jumper and I was like: 'Phew, I might not get beaten up in comprehensive school next week.'"
