Aldi Is Trying To Use M&S's Colin/Cuthbert The Caterpillar Court Case To Raise Money For Charity

It looks like Aldi may have finally got in trouble for its not-so-subtle copies of iconic products.

It’s been announced that Marks & Spencer has begun legal action against Aldi over its Cuthbert The Caterpillar cake. In case you hadn’t guessed, M&S believes that Cuthbert is just a smidge too similar to its iconic Colin The Caterpillar.

M&S is claiming that their similarity leads consumers to believe they are of the same standard and “rides on the coat-tails” of M&S's reputation. It lodged an intellectual property claim with the High Court this week.

The result M&S wants is for Aldi to remove the product from sale and agree not to sell anything similar in the future.

A spokesman said: “Because we know the M&S brand is special to our customers and they expect only the very best from us, love and care goes into every M&S product on our shelves.

“So, we want to protect Colin, Connie and our reputation for freshness, quality, innovation and value.”

After reacting to all this with some very, VERY funny memes, Aldi is now trying to convince M&S, plus all the other supermarkets that sell caterpillar cakes to club together to raise money for charity.

But unfortunately, it seems like Marks & Spencer isn't into that idea...
