Alana Haim's Louis Vuitton Oscars Gown Took Over 400 Hours To Make – And Other Details You Missed
There was no shortage of drama at the 94th Academy Awards, which took place on Sunday night at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. But before *that* scandalous moment, all eyes were firmly on the red carpet – and in terms of fashion at least, the world's biggest stars certainly did not disappoint.
The Oscars provide the perfect stage for some major fashion moments, and one of our favourites of the night came courtesy of the impeccably elegant Alana Haim.
It was a big night for the actor: she was attending the Oscars for the first time, while the film in which she had the lead role, Licorice Pizza, was up for three awards. To mark the occasion, Haim wore a glorious, shimmering, scalloped gown which had been specially created for the evening by Louis Vuitton – and actually hand-carried over on a plane from Paris just a few days before.
The custom gown was made from a light blue silk mousseline, featuring long sleeves, a striking train and glass beads and paillette embroidery for added sparkle. Many noted its semblance to a 'mermaid dress' on the night – and this was exactly the look the French luxury fashion house was going for, with embroidery inspired by mermaid scales and made with sequins and coloured glass tube pearls, as well as a hem and train which followed the same 'scale' shape and cut.
It took the Louis Vuitton Paris atelier a total of 170 hours to assemble the dress for the occasion, and a further 420 hours to hand-embroider it in time for Alana Haim to make her Oscars debut. It's little wonder the finished piece made for one of the most memorable looks of the night.
