Video transcript

ALAN CARR: Hello, it's Alan Carr here. Now, a while ago, we started a search for a young lad to play me in a sitcom based on my life growing up in Northampton in the 80s. Now, we got over 500 audition tapes. Thank you so much to everyone who sent them in. Some of them were so heartwarming. Some of them were just downright offensive. But there was one boy who really stood out from the rest. He was called Oliver. And he literally blew us away.

So I'm here now in his home [LAUGHS] to tell him he's got the part. I do not know what reaction he's going to get. I don't know if he's-- I don't even know if he's going to accept the part. I hope he does because he's absolutely brilliant. So wish me luck. What's your cat called?

- Alan.

ALAN CARR: Alan the cat?

- Yeah.

ALAN CARR: Because of me?

- Yes. [LAUGHS]

ALAN CARR: [LAUGHS] I think I was less nervous hosting the "Royal Variety Performance." That's what I was saying if it's-- oh!

- Oh, my god.

ALAN CARR: He's here.

[BLEEP]

[BLEEP]

- [INAUDIBLE]

ALAN CARR: Oh, my god.

[DOOR OPENS]

OLIVER SAVILE: [INAUDIBLE] I'm famous. And his name was, uh-- [GASPS] Hello.

ALAN CARR: Hi, Ollie.

OLIVER SAVILE: Oh, hello.

ALAN CARR: How was school?

OLIVER SAVILE: It was very good.

ALAN CARR: Yeah.

OLIVER SAVILE: [LAUGHS] How are you?

ALAN CARR: Great. I've got some news for you. Come and sit down. [LAUGHS]

OLIVER SAVILE: Wow, this is weird.

ALAN CARR: Yeah.

OLIVER SAVILE: But, wow, hello.

ALAN CARR: Well, listen, you know-- you know, you sent us in a fantastic audition tape. Do you remember that?

OLIVER SAVILE: Yeah.

ALAN CARR: And then you-- then we saw you in the flesh. And we filmed some footage. And you tested all the lines. And you were great. Well, we sent it to ITV, yeah. And they looked at it. And they want to do a six-part sitcom based on my life changing ends. And they would love you to play me. And I would love you to play me because I think you're brilliant.

OLIVER SAVILE: Oh, my god. I wondered what this was all about.

ALAN CARR: [LAUGHS]

OLIVER SAVILE: So--

ALAN CARR: Will you say yes? Will you--

OLIVER SAVILE: Yes!

ALAN CARR: Yes?

OLIVER SAVILE: Yes!

ALAN CARR: You're going to be me.

OLIVER SAVILE: Yeah, yeah, yeah!

ALAN CARR: You're going to be me!

OLIVER SAVILE: Hey, let's go!

ALAN CARR: [LAUGHS] Let's go. Yeah.

OLIVER SAVILE: Oh, my god. I'm so excited. I can't wait.

ALAN CARR: [LAUGHS]

OLIVER SAVILE: I'm so excited.

ALAN CARR: Oh, you're going to be brilliant. Well, you are brilliant.

OLIVER SAVILE: I know.

[LAUGHTER]

ALAN CARR: Oh, dear, we've created a monster.

[LAUGHS]

OLIVER SAVILE: But I can't stand here gassing.

ALAN CARR: Well, me and Ollie will see you on ITV next year.

OLIVER SAVILE: Bye!

ALAN CARR: Bye! [LAUGHS]
