If you thought paying thousands of pounds for a home gym set-up was steep, then you’re in for a shock thanks to Louis Vuitton's latest collection.
The luxury designer brand, which also caught headlines in 2020 for releasing a pair of £1730 'designer' dumbbells, recently released their Fall/Winter 21 collection and, with it, a leather bag shaped like an aeroplane. So far, so LV. But, here's the kicker — the bag costs more than an actual plane.
The brown aviation-inspired men's bag comes embossed in Louis Vuitton’s classic LV monogram pattern, with tail, wings, engines and even a nose to form the shape of an airplane.
The collection took on archetypes such as hotelier, architect and salesman and aimed to change the dress codes that inform our predetermined perceptions of these familiar characters by using accessories, motifs and techniques to play on themes of illusion.
However, online users were not into it. Many criticised the design as well as the price tag attached to it. A Louis Vuitton Aeroplane-shaped bag will set you back about £28,000 – enough to buy you a real plane, as one Twitter user discovered.
The brand’s artistic director, Virgil Abloh, also owner of Off-White, is known for outlandish designs like this. Previous collections have included carrot-shaped bags which, again, come with a hefty price tag. We'll stick to our backpack for now.
