Supermodel Adriana Lima has become the first person to pose pregnant for the annual Pirelli calendar.

The Victoria’s Secret Angel was pictured by photojournalist Steve McCurry for the 2013 calendar, who said he had a different vision for the normally risqué calendar this year.

Heavily pregnant Adriana is pictured leaning against a concrete wall, wearing a black crop top and black slouch trousers with her stomach visible in the shot.

The Pirelli calendar is given out to the company’s VIPs and normally features sexy shots of nude models, with last year’s including 12 models who were completely naked.

This year, Steve said he wanted to take the focus away from the models’ bodies for his turn behind the lens.

"You can photograph nudes anywhere," he said during a press conference in the calendar’s location, Rio de Janeiro.

"But these models are clothed, and each of them has her own charity.

“They are purposeful and idealistic people. So I wanted to photograph them in a special place, and Rio was perfect for this,” he added.

Supermodels Isabeli Fontana, Petra Nemcova – who founded the Happy Hearts Fund helping children affected by natural disasters – and Kyleigh Kuhn, who helps to build playgrounds and schools in Afghanistan, also featured in the calendar.

Other than the supermodels, Steve photographed normal people going about their everyday lives and included pictures with no people in them at all.
