Sienna Miller, R.J. Cutler and Bee Shaffer at 'The September Issue' premiere
Can you believe it was way back in 2009 when R.J. Cutler released ‘The September Issue’ into the world? The documentary-style film about the inner workings of US Vogue got us shuddering at Anna Wintour’s fearsome ways and rock-solid bob, made us fall in love with Grace Coddington as she shot stunning couture spreads, and had us gasping at André Leon Talley playing tennis in the blingest sports gear ever.
So you can imagine our excitement upon hearing the director is bringing another fash-tastic film to the silver screen. WWD reports that Mr Cutler is working on an adaptation of 1986 novel ‘Fabulous Nobodies’ and the fashion credentials are already lining up. The film’s producer is Julie Anne Quay, aka: former executive editor of V magazine, while former Vogue Australia editor Lee Tulloch is the book’s author. So, yes, the adaption is bound to be packed with incredible style of the Eighties variety. Hmm, after this morning’s sighting of AnnaSophia Robb trussed up as Carrie Bradshaw circa 1985, could it be that the era of lycra and power shoulders is set to takeover the movie AND fashion worlds? Yikes. Oh, and one more thing: the film is being described as ‘Emma’ meets ‘Clueless’. How ruddy BRILLIANT does that sound?!
If, like us, you're unfamiliar with the story, it focuses on Reality Nirvana Tuttle (oh yes), a fashion-obsessed door girl who works at a downtown nightclub in Eighties Manhattan. R.J and his team are on the hunt for a stylish twentysomething actress to take the lead role - but who will they choose? Allow us take this opportunity to make a few suggestions of our favourite fabulous somebodies, and you can guarantee we’ll keep our eyes peeled for the first on-set snaps when filming begins in Autumn…
