Actress and activist Rose McGowan is the unexpected celebrity face of London Fashion Week
Forget everything you think London Fashion Week is about, as this season’s sartorial offerings mean zilch if you don’t have the buzziest names sitting FROW.
Nope, we’re not talking about Kate Moss or Alexa Chung because in a surprising turn of events, Rose McGowan has been SS19‘s most sought after face.
The actress-turned-activist has been stealing the headlines for several months in the wake of the ‘#MeToo’ movement after she was one of the first women to publicly accuse Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault.
Since she made the allegations back in October, more than 75 women have also come forward against the former film mogul as men and women across the globe have rallied together to help bring about justice.
Now, McGowan has brought the demonstrations across the pond after designer Nicholas Kirkwood snapped up the activist for his ‘#MeToo’-themed runway.
The 45-year-old donned an all-white jumpsuit for the SS19 show titled “Hacking and Activism” and walked barefoot alongside the likes of model Winnie Harlow.
Set in a dystopian future, McGowan opened the event which referenced a female uprising – aptly fitting in the ‘Me Too’ era.
Backstage, the actress addressed the Weinstein scandal: “We are a lot further along than where we were, but we are still on a razor’s edge. We have to start a new conversation.”
“It’s been a long haul. I’m really gratified that people are questioning what is acceptable, but it’s been a hell of a year.”
But it seems McGowan is in town for the long run this season, as she was spotted sitting FROW at the Pam Hogg SS19 show the previous day.
Clad in an aqua-hued trench coat and trainers, the actress was soon plastered over the newspapers and she was in good company with Brooklyn Beckham sitting just metres away.
Later that very evening, she was photographed once more at a Ralph Lauren party with fellow actress and host Jessica Chastain.
For the event held at A-list hotspot Christabel’s, McGowan dressed in a hot pink blazer – a lick of co-ordinating lipstick to finish.
The next day, the actress was back on the scene in another metallic trench for the Osman SS19 show held at Pheonix Gardens. Within a mere matter of hours, she swiftly changed into a sheer dress (with seriously feathered sleeves) for the Gareth Pugh after-party across town.
Phew.
But with two more days of London Fashion Week to go, we’re sure to spot the actress on the FROW once more. The question is: did she pack enough trench coats?
