9 long-time celebrity couples proving love really can last in Hollywood

Hollywood is known for many things: blockbuster movies, endless sunshine, and fantastic fashion. One thing it can’t seem to get right? Marriages.

Trying to keep track of who’s dating whom and which megastar just filed for divorce from what other megastar can be exhausting. But there are some couples who buck the trend and deserve an award for making love last in Tinseltown.

Let’s take a look at some of our favourite lovebirds who have turned showbiz courtships into Hollywood legends.

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith — 21 years

Will and Jada are one of the hottest long-term celeb couples out there, but even they admit that it’s not always easy. Will told Entertainment Tonight that marriage is “the most grueling, excruciating thing we have ever taken on,” but also that “we’re just not quitters.

Between making hit films, and children Willow and Jaden following in their famous parents’ footsteps, these two soulmates don’t seem to be looking for their independence day anytime soon.

Felicity Huffman and William H. Macy — 21 Years

This supercouple was nicknamed “Filliam H. Muffman” by The Colbert Report, and what a couple they are. Macy told US Weekly, “I’m the luckiest guy, I won the lottery. I love being married to Felicity.”

The two dated on and off for a whopping 15 years before she finally said yes to Macy’s proposals — though she was the one who pursued him at first. “I went on a campaign. He was certainly worth it,” she said to the Daily Mail.

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos — 22 years

Could these two be any cuter? Ripa and Consuelos heated up TV screens everywhere when they both appeared on the legendary soap opera All My Children.

But when it came time to get hitched themselves, they opted to skip the traditional over-the-top kind of wedding that soaps are known for and hopped a flight to Vegas for a quickie ceremony just a day after Consuelos proposed over pizza and wine.

Ripa told Soap Opera Digest shortly after they got together, “We just understood each other really well. … If two people were ever supposed to be together, I’d say it was us.”

Elton John and David Furnish — 25 years

There’s nothing “a little bit funny” about the Rocket Man’s 25 years with filmmaker hubby David Furnish. The two met at a party, hit it off, and have been together ever since.

They finally were able to get married following England’s legalisation of same-sex marriage and have since become proud papas to two sons, Zachary and Elijah.

This past January, John shocked fans when he announced that he was retiring from touring. His heartwarming reason? He wanted to spend more time with his family.

Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa — 27 years

These two weren’t just born to run — they were born to be together! After Scialfa joined the E-Street Band in 1984, she and Springsteen started making beautiful music together, eventually marrying in 1991.

People magazine reported at the time that their wedding guests included other superstar musicians like Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, and fellow E-Street Band members.

Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon — 30 years

Having recently celebrated 30 years of marriage, Bacon and Sedgwick are still going strong! He joked to Entertainment Tonight, “Whatever you do, don’t listen to celebrities on advice on how to stay married. That’s my secret.” But he’s previously been quoted as saying, “Any marriage is hard work, but what I always say is, ‘Keep the fights clean and the sex dirty.’”

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson — 30 years

Arguably Hollywood’s most beloved couple, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have a “big” love story that is as legendary as some of their roles. The two married just a year after Hanks’s divorce from his first wife, and they’ve been inseparable ever since.

After two Academy Award wins, a couple of kids, and even a battle with breast cancer, Hanks and Wilson continue to make a “splash” on the red carpet and have fans everywhere rooting for their continued success.

Denzel Washington and Pauletta Washington — 35 years

Two-time Oscar winner Denzel Washington and his wife, Pauletta, have almost four decades of wedded bliss under their belts — leaving many other celebrity couples in the dust.

The pair met on the set of a TV movie in the ’70s, and each seems to have an opinion on the secret to their success. Denzel quipped to People, “I do what I’m told. I keep my mouth shut,” while Pauletta told Extra, “Nothing is magic, it’s just work.”

Mark Hamill and Marilou Hamill — 40 years

Mark and Marilou’s 40-year marriage proves that the force is with them! After several high-profile relationships (including a secret one with co-star Carrie Fisher), he finally met “the one” in the unlikeliest of places: the dentist’s office.

Marilou was a hygienist and Mark was a patient. After three children and the out-of-this-world success of the Star Wars franchise, this happy couple certainly has quite a few reasons to smile.
