9 celebrity outfits that missed the mark at The Fashion Awards — sorry

  • The 2023 Fashion Awards were held in London, England, on Monday.

  • The event celebrates fashion and raises money for the British Fashion Council Foundation.

  • There were some stylish looks on the red carpet, but there were plenty of fashion faux pas, too.

On Monday night, celebrities, designers, and influencers walked the red carpet for the 2023 Fashion Awards in London, England, to fundraise for the British Fashion Council Foundation.

But the celebration of style was dotted with some fashion faux pas, from boring outfits to color palettes.

Here are the celebrity outfits from The Fashion Awards that missed the mark, in our opinion.

Anne Hathaway wore a vintage Valentino gown, but the overall look was underwhelming.

While the short-sleeved, cream dress was glamorous with a scooped neckline and tiered skirt, Hathaway's necklace and casual hairstyle didn't compliment the textured design.

Because Hathaway has had such a standout style year, it would have been fun to see her in something bolder and brighter for a fashion-focused event.

Pamela Anderson went for a chic, but too simple, all-white outfit.

Wearing all white, the model and author sported wide-leg trousers, a square-shaped blouse, and an oversized blazer, all from Stella McCartney.

The outfit would have been a beautiful choice for a business meeting or lunch, and it's consistent with her recent, more laid-back fashion — Anderson also ditched makeup as she's done for other public appearances lately — but this event would have been the perfect time for Anderson to showcase a bolder side of her style.

Gwyneth Paltrow matched the red carpet with her long, red dress.

Both her column gown and fuzzy coat were vintage Valentino pieces.

The latter garment had potential to create a fun look, but its dress counterpart was too shapeless and simple to stand out at the event. It could have been an opportunity to wear a more interesting silhouette or texture to compliment her coat.

Daniel Levy played it safe in an all-black outfit.

He wore a white button-up underneath a tuxedo jacket, and loose-fitting pants that were covered in sparkles. And as Levy always does, he sported a signature pair of glasses that matched his outfit.

The Loewe ensemble looked chic, but it wasn't the most exciting outfit seen on the red carpet. Perhaps more sparkles on the jacket would have amplified the look.

Kate Moss wore a black, cape-style gown that was almost too understated.

Her dress had long, flowing sleeves, a V-shaped neckline, and a thigh-high slit that revealed her matching sandals.

But the gown's black-sequin pattern blended in with the dress, making it look plain on the red carpet, and the flowing fabric overwhelmed her when not perfectly posed. A pop of color could have made the look more interesting.

Amal Clooney's sparkly look was pretty, but it fell a bit flat.

Clooney wore a form-fitting gown from Atelier Versace with a scooped neckline and a train to the Fashion Awards. The gown had a tan base, and it was covered in orange, ombré sequins that got bigger as the dress flowed down.

The dress was pretty, but it looked more appropriate for prom than a celebration of high fashion. Smaller sparkles instead of oversized sequins, or a more interesting silhouette, could have made the gown stand out more.

Josh O'Connor's ensemble didn't look cohesive.

O'Connor arrived in a bespoke suit from Loewe, which he paired with a scoop-necked t-shirt.

His unbuttoned jacket and high-waisted pants were made of a fuzzy material. Though the texture was a welcome change from a traditional suit, it didn't work with the casual tee he wore underneath.

The suit would have been a stronger outfit paired with a turtleneck or button-down shirt for the high-fashion occasion. A pop of color would have made it even more of a standout.

Ellie Goulding's combination of a mini puffer jacket and an oversized blazer was a fashion miss.

Goulding wore an all-black Messika outfit to the Fashion Awards, pairing an oversized blazer dress with thigh-high, latex boots.

Goulding's blazer was a bold choice in and of itself, but she also wore a puffy, cropped jacket over it. The two pieces just didn't work together. She could have worn the outfit without it for a sleek, statement look.

Kit Connor's outfit focused on one piece of outerwear but the color wasn't bold enough.

Loewe designed his look, which included a casual black top tucked into matching trousers, and a double-breasted satin overcoat embellished with a fabric flower pin.

The trench-style piece looked cool on the red carpet, but its off-yellow color wasn't the strongest choice. And because the rest of his outfit was black, it felt like a missed opportunity to continue having fun with color.
