7 Of The Best Bonfire Night Events In London If You Want Bang Not Boring

If you’re looking for a night out with friends and family, mulled wine and sparklers under a veil of stars and fireworks in London, it’s time you get your plans sorted for Bonfire Night, pronto.

After all, where better to commemorate Guy Fawkes Night than in the very city which saw the member of the Gunpowder Plot arrested while guarding explosives the plotters had placed beneath the House of Lords in 1605?

This year, several of the capital’s landmarks including Alexandra Palace and Battersea Park will be home to some of the most epic firework displays and bonfires, ice skating, live music and funfair rides.

Better yet, several will be welcoming guests with fully-stocked bars and food stalls. Two words: Candy Floss.

Here’s your go-to guide to where to celebrate Bonfire Night in London this year:

1) Alexandra Palace

One of the most famous Bonfire Night events in London, the Fireworks Festival is returning to Alexandra Palace this year offering partygoers a German beer festival, music from Trevor Nelson, an ice disco and a dazzling light show..

Better yet, there will also be retro funfair rides, an oompah band, a Spice Girls tribute act, fire jugglers and, of course, a huge bonfire.

2) Harrow Fireworks

Head on down to Byron Park this year for fireworks choreographed to film music and the festival of light Diwali.

Guests will also be treated to food from around the world, a bar marquee, a fun fair, henna and hand art and a 20-minute pyro-musical fireworks display. Need we say more?

3) Dulwich Firework Display

Make sure you’re at Dulwich Sports Club if you’re south of the capital this year where ticket holders will be treated to a family-orientated firework display with food including a BBQ and pizza on offer (plus a bar selling mulled wine for grown-ups).

With a promise of more food and drink stalls than ever before, this will certainly be a fun-filled night of fireworks and frivolity. We're especially into the 'eco-friendly bonfire' projected onto a big screen.

4) Battersea Park

Dust off your elbows because nearly everyone in London will be wanting to nab a ticket to the Battersea Park Fireworks which, this year, is expanding to become a two-night affair.

At 8pm on the Saturday, a fantastic firework show (by Titanium Pyrotechnics, the creative minds behind the Mayor of London’s New Year’s Eve celebrations and Edinburgh’s Hogmanay) will start. The Evolution London will be transformed into a German ‘Bierkeller’ complete with live band, beer hall and bumper cars, and the afterparty will be held within the park at Evolution London immediately after the fireworks display and will go on until midnight.

Sunday is more family-friendly, with a virtual light display and fewer explosions. It gets going at 6pm, with fireworks at 7pm.

Date: Saturday - Sunday November 6 - 7

Morden Park's excellent Bonfire Night has two dazzling sets of fireworks, one starting a little earlier for families, but it's definitely worth attending both if you can. There will be a funfair, food stalls and a bar, too, so you'll have plenty to keep you entertained.
