8 Times Rihanna Was Princess Diana’s Twin

Just like the rest of us, Rihanna loves her some Princess Diana. The singer has named the Princess of Wales, who died in 1997, as one of her fashion icons, telling Glamour in 2013: “You know who is the best whoever did it? Princess Diana. She was like — she killed it. Every look was right. She was gangsta with her clothes. She had these crazy hats. She got oversize jackets. I loved everything she wore!”

And indeed, Princess Di was a sartorial gangsta in her own right. Whether she was mixing houndstooth prints or simply killing it post-breakup in a sultry black off-the-shoulder ruched dress, Diana looked great in just about everything she wore.

Over the weekend, RiRi paid tribute to her favorite style star by rocking a T-shirt with Lady Di’s image on the front, pairing the look with very un-Diana cutoff shorts, a leather jacket, and those impossibly high denim boot-chap hybrid creations that are part of her forthcoming collaboration with Manolo Blahnik.

While Rihanna and Princess Diana have radically different styles (we don’t think Di would have been quite so comfortable showing her goods in a see-through dress covered in Swarovski crystals), RiRi has definitely had moments when a sliver of Diana’s influence shone through.
