Christmas jumpers – you either love them or hate them.

But whether you want to shout your love from the snow-covered rooftops, or say it with a more pared-down, stylish look, our list is bound to get you in the Christmas spirit!

This year, many fashion brands are leaning towards more subtle festive jumpers, which can be worn throughout the colder months rather than just dug out for Christmas.

They can be dressed up or down, making them much more versatile than a bells-and-whistles jumper with “HO HO HO” splashed across it and actual bells attached.

Our testers searched high and low for the cosiest, softest, and most stylish Christmas jumpers to add to your festive arsenal this year. Merry shopping!

Lazy Oaf x Peanuts lazy holiday sweatshirt: £75, Lazy Oaf

How cute is this sweatshirt? You can’t get more festive than bright red, and it can be worn as a jumper dress over warm leggings and heeled boots. It’s unisex, so anyone can wear it, but we’d recommend ordering a size down because it runs really oversized. The striped mock neck and trims gives it a more street style feel, and the Snoopy print is simply adorable. Perfect for wearing on Christmas day when you’re lazing about after dinner – your food baby will thank you!

French Connection cropped bobble balloon sleeve jumper: £45, French Connection

The colour of this jumper is fantastically bright and cheery, and features balloon sleeves that are bang on trend. It’s soft and comfortable, fitting closer to the body than most of the other jumpers on this list. The bobbles are part of the knit rather than being sewn on top of the jumper, so there’s no need to worry about them falling off after a few washes or catching on anything. Also available in a cream colour if bright pink is a bit too jarring for your wardrobe.

M&S let it snow Christmas jumper: £15, M&S

Now we’re really getting into the Christmas spirit! This black and white jumper does not fail to deliver festive feels, and best of it, it's not gaudy. With its classic jumper shape and length, it looks great over long satin or pleated skirts. We found that it runs quite large and recommend buying it a size down if you want a more fitted jumper. The snow bobbles are a super fun addition, but might not survive children or fiddly hands. Nevertheless, this is perfect for that upcoming Christmas dinner with friends.

Warehouse fair isle chunky funnel jumper: £34.50, Warehouse

Make a statement with this colourful fair isle jumper! It puts a bright, bold twist on the traditional fair isle design and makes us think of cosying up in a ski cabin with warm hot chocolate and marshmallows. The high neck and tight knit will keep you warm, but there’s still space to layer thermals underneath if you really feel the cold. It’s a subtly festive jumper that can be smartened up with tailored trousers and leather boots, and wouldn’t look out of place in the office.

Topshop Christmas knitted fairytale jumper: £39, Topshop

You will have a fairytale Christmas with this jumper, with its sweet little embroidered Santa and silver snowflake, and snow bobbles! Our testers are big fans of the sophisticaed oatmeal colour and slightly cropped, boxy shape. It does run very large, which is great if you love an oversized jumper – if not, buy a size down. The knit is very thick and soft, and is guaranteed to keep you warm and stylish while you carol.

Batch1 it's all good in the pud women's Christmas sweatshirt: £34, Not On The High Street

It’s not Christmas without a properly good Christmas pun, and this has won our hearts this year. This pullover ticks all the Christmas boxes – it has a soft, fleecy inner and is great for layering over T-shirts or thermals. It comes in several colours, but our testers particularly like it in red or blue. It’ll definitely put a smile on your face and is perfect for Christmas Jumper Day in the office!

Ganni striped fair isle wool-blend cardigan: £200, Net-A-Porter

If you want to reign in the bright colours and overly-festive designs, then this is the knit for you. The muted dark green colours paired with fair isle sleeves gives this cardigan just enough wintry vibes to keep you in the good books of your Christmas-crazed friends. It’s thick and luxuriously soft, and has sleeves long enough to cover wrists so it keeps the cold out. Understated but not an understatement, throw this over any outfit to stay cosy.

Self Portrait green knit and lace trim jumper: £250, Self Portrait

This super luxe emerald green jumper would have been our tester’s top pick if it wasn’t for the high price tag. The orange detail gives it a festive pop of colour and a delicate lace trim makes it extra luxe. This jumper features a very thick, complicated knit design and runs quite big, making it a great oversized cropped jumper for layering over skirts or dresses. Add chunky jewellery to make even more of a statement when you wear it to your numerous Christmas parties!

The verdict: Women's Christmas jumpers

There’s something for everyone this season – whether you’re extremely outspoken about your love for Christmas and have already started picking out a tree, or you’re more relaxed about festivities and prefer curling up with loads of Christmas telly. Our favourite is the Lazy Oaf X Peanuts sweatshirt for its nostalgic comfort, but it’s closely followed by M&S’s let it snow jumper because it’s sheer fun. Those snow bobbles are too squishy not to play with and it’ll be an all-round hit anywhere you wear it.
