Buckingham Palace has released a commemorative portrait in honour of the Queen and Prince Philip's 70th wedding anniversary tomorrow (20 November).

Part of a series of pictures - more expected to be released tomorrow - the first image sees the pair standing in front of Thomas Gainsborough's 1781 portraits of George III and Queen Charlotte, who were married for 57 years. The portraits, by British photographer Matt Holyoak of Camera Press, were taken in the White Drawing Room at Windsor Castle in early November.

The milestone is particularly significant as no other member of the royal family has ever reached a platinum wedding anniversary. It's believed that the pair will celebrate their landmark anniversary by hosting an intimate dinner with family.
