Forget about Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid for a moment, because a 69-year-old grandmother, called Maye Musk has been winning over the New York Fashion Week catwalks left, right and centre.

While you may know Maye as the mother of billionaire Elon Musk, the silver haired stunner has made a name for herself in her own right for being a successful model for five decades.

Although the grandmother’s home life is sure to be quite a handful, thanks to her ten (yes, ten) grandchildren, Maye isn’t about to retire anytime soon – a relief for the several designers who were eager to have her on their catwalks this season.

Maye started off New York Fashion Week by opening the Concept Korea show, which saw the mature model rock a rather edgy appearance, wearing an all-white ensemble that matched her bleached locks.

She then went on to walk the Project Runway show, before being the centre of attention at Zero + Maria Cornejo on Monday night, donning a very elegant silky striped co-ord.

It’s not just us who have been loving Maye’s NYFW success, she has been proudly posting snaps to her Instagram with the hashtag #justgettingstarted.

Speaking to Yahoo Style UK, Maye shared her delight at how the fashion industry in recent years has become more inclusive when it comes to casting, “It’s great to see all ages, skin tones and body shapes represented in fashion. Companies are aware we are part of a global village and there are many types of beauty.”

However, there is still a long way to go to battle ageism in the industry, “we are still ignored by many”, Maye told us, “but with the media getting excited about older models, I believe it leads to the fashion industry following and paying attention.”

The 69-year-old also proudly admits, “aging has been my best asset”, which can definitely by seen from her several appearances at NYFW this week, proving that she is as in-demand as ever.

If anything, Maye proves once again that older models definitely deserve a place on the catwalk.
