Whether you live continents apart, you're self-isolating or you just can’t make it round to their place tonight, virtual dates have become the unexpected saviour of 2020.

While virtual dates are not entirely new, Michelle Begy, founder and MD of Ignite Dating says that Covid-19 has changed the dating landscape this year and virtual dates have played a big role in keeping us connected.

Michelle said 'during lockdown it became apparent that we’d have to get comfortable using video chats, getting creative and dating from a distance. We adapted because we had to, but even as things return to normal it looks like virtual dating is set to stay.'

So if you're looking for some inspiration for your next virtual date, we’ve got you covered. We asked Michelle to share with us some of her top virtual date night ideas. These were her suggestions.

Virtual date night ideas:

1. Grab a drink over WhatsApp video

A study revealed that 64% of those planning a virtual date say that grabbing a coffee or a drink together is their date of choice and it’s easy to see why.

Whether you go to your favourite bar, coffee shop or you whip something up at home, the two of you can enjoy a catch up over your favourite tipple.

2. Take a walk with FaceTime

If you love nothing more than a romantic stroll around your local park you can still do it from a distance.

Simply call each other up or use FaceTime if you’d prefer, as you both enjoy a walk and a catch up around your favourite places.

3. Cook a meal together over Skype

There can be something very romantic about cooking with your partner, but just because you can’t do it in person, doesn't mean you can’t enjoy dinner together.

Set your phone or laptop up with Skype and pick your favourite meal, you can chat and drink as you prepare your dinner and if you time it just right, you can sit down and eat together too.

4. Watch a movie on Teleparty (formerly Netflix Party)

At the beginning of the year, Netflix created its Netflix Party feature (which has since been rebranded as Teleparty) to allow users to watch a film together. They even added a chat feature.

So while Netflix and chill might not be possible in person, you can still catch your favourite movies together.

5. Workout with Zoom

If you're both fitness fanatics why not arrange a workout date? You can take part in an online class or even set up your own routine.

Being able to see each other and spur each other on can be just the motivation you need to keep going.

6. Order a takeaway for each other

Ordering a takeaway, vegging out and watching a movie —sounds like the perfect date night. So why not order a takeaway for each other and then sit down for a Zoom date?

Not only is it a thoughtful way of caring for each other, it also makes for an exciting surprise when the food turns up.

Plus, it's a great conversation starter and a good way to get to know each other's tastes and thought processes.
