Women's Health are here to bring you an exclusive look at the morning routine of your favourite celebrities: this month, it’s reality star Millie Mackintosh. Catch her cover shoot and interview in the May issue of Women’s Health, out now.

While change has been the primary theme for many of us this past year, Millie Mackintosh has had a big one. After giving birth to daughter Sienna in mid-lockdown May, she’s spent the last 11 months adjusting to her new life as a mum.

But between nap times and nappy changes, the reality star-turned-social media mogul has her fair share of work to fill her days. To find out more about her healthy AM habits, we caught up with Millie on the set of her May Women’s Health cover shoot.

Keen to learn about how she gets it all done? Read on for a typical day in the life, from the early wake-up call to the caramelised banana pancakes.

Waking up

As many a mother can attest to, Millie doesn’t get a chance to hit snooze in the AM. ‘Most days, I wake up between 6am and 6:30am,’ she tells Women’s Health. ‘I don't have an alarm clock, but Sienna is my alarm.’

‘I wake up raring to go – I am actually a morning person and I have most of my energy in the morning,’ says the cover star. ‘So it depends how I've slept, but usually I wake up with lots of energy.’

As for Millie’s first movements, this one is definitely #relatable. ‘The first thing I do after I wake up is usually check my phone,’ she says. ‘I can normally hear Sienna and I look on the baby monitor and see what she's up to. She's normally babbling away and I leave her at least until 7am, so it gives me a little bit of time to get out of bed and start my day.’

Taking a probiotic

Speaking of… As a poster girl for all things wellness, Millie starts her day with a staple of good gut health.

‘Once I've checked the baby monitor and checked she's okay, I go downstairs and the first thing I do is have my probiotic,’ says Millie. ‘I go to the fridge and have a shot of Symprove, which is a liquid probiotic, and that's pretty much how I start my day every day.’

And with the time left to spare, it’s all about preparation for Millie. ‘I then prepare Sienna's medication for her reflux, and then I often prepare her breakfast,’ she says. ‘If I've got 10 minutes left, I just go online, have a look at my to-do list for the day and feel organised. And then I'll go and get her up at seven.’

Getting a sweat on

To help her feel chilled and stay strong, Millie makes sure to get a workout in where she can. And as for many of us, it’s a pre-12pm job or not at all.

‘I like to exercise in the morning, that's when I've got most of my energy,’ says the cover star. ‘I like to get it done – if I say I'm going to exercise later in the afternoon or in the evening, I'll never do it.’

As for the particular training du jour? That depends. ‘Either I might go for a run or I might do some strength training with my trainer,’ Millie says.

Eating breakfast

On the hunt for some new breakfast inspo? Millie has just the thing. ‘I have kind of two breakfasts, but during the week, I would normally have something like an egg white omelette with spinach and feta, with some porridge and fresh berries on the side,’ she says.

‘On the weekend, my breakfast would probably be something like pancakes with caramelised banana, bacon and maple syrup,’ says the star. ‘Or maybe some nice pastries.’ Drooling, much?

Coffee time

Mums and non-mums alike know the power of a good caffeine hit in the morning – and Millie is no exception.

‘I usually have a black coffee with a little bit of oat milk and a little bit of stevia,’ she tells Women’s Health. ‘Actually, at the start of this year I did a big sugar detox and it's made such a difference. I really cut back on sugar where I can and use a little bit of sweetener instead.’

‘I like to use a natural sweetener like stevia,’ says Millie. ‘It still gives that sweet taste – I find it quite hard to have coffee without anything in it.’

Skincare routine

When it comes to ticking off her to-do list, Millie is a pro at fitting it all in. ‘On an ideal day I'll have worked out and had my breakfast probably by 10 and then if I'm doing some work, I'll try to do that between 10 and lunchtime when I've got most of my energy,’ she says. ‘Then in the afternoon I’ll maybe have some more time with Sienna.’

And as for her morning non-negotiables? ‘It used to be that I'd always have washed my face and done my skincare routine,’ says Millie. ‘That doesn't always happen for me anymore since having a baby and sometimes I get to the middle of the afternoon and realise I haven't even brushed my teeth.

‘On a good day I’ll have washed my face, brushed my teeth and exercised, but sometimes all of that goes out the window and I'm still in my pyjamas at 3pm.’ Been there, got the raggedy old t-shirt.
