Lorena Durán is celebrating a milestone today, and in honor of the Spanish model’s 30th birthday, we are throwing it back to her rookie SI Swimsuit feature.
The Seville, Spain native made her debut with the magazine 2020, when she was photographed by Josie Clough in Scrub Island in the British Virgin Islands. She returned to the magazine last year, and traveled to Montenegro with James Macari. Durán was captured by Ben Watts in Puerto Rico for the 2023 issue.
“I love Sports Illustrated and the support of women. It’s super important to speak about the life, about the passion,” she gushed during Miami Swim Week this July, where she walked in the SI Swimsuit Runway Show at W South Beach. “I’m so excited because it’s my third year with the magazine, but this is my first [runway] show, and I feel a lot of emotions. I do a lot of runway [work] in Spain, in New York, but not here with my [SI Swimsuit] family. This runway for SI Swimsuit, it’s super important because I love my family.”
She added that the energy in Miami is electric, and getting to meet fans in person is a feeling like no other.
Durán is best known as the first curve model to appear in a Victoria’s Secret campaign, and has also worked with other major brands, including Intimissimi, L’Oréal Paris and Abercrombie.
Below are five of our favorite photos from her SI Swimsuit debut in Scrub Island.
Now through Nov. 1, 100% of SI Swimsuit’s portion of proceeds from cover prints purchased here will be donated to the Maui Strong Fund, which is helping to support the people and places of Maui affected by the recent wildfires.
